Python backend developer

We're looking for a full time Python Backend Developer to work on international Animation and VFX movies.

You'll be powering the artists of our studio by shipping efficient production tools, and by automating their workflows.

You'll be maintaining existing in-house tools, and you'll be actively contributing to our new generation of tool sets. 

Roles

- Write clean and well documented Python code.

- Work with supervisors and users to design and implement production tools.

- Participate in code reviews.

- Write tests and debug applications.

- Develop backend components.

- Maintain and improve our existing database and API.

- Contribute to the design and development of our future database.

- Coordinate with front-end developers.

- Integrate user-facing elements using server-side logic.

- Develop and improve our core functions and in-house libraries serving desktop apps.

- Coordinate with our teams of developers and IT engineers.

- Provide technical support to our users.

- Occasionally contribute to GUI improvements using Qt.

This role doesn’t require you to be a front end expert, but understanding tech like Vue or React will help you.

Professional experience and education- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, or related engineering field.

- At least 3 years of experience as a backend developer.

- Experience in the CG/VFX industry is a plus, but not mandatory.

Requirements- Strong programming skills in Python.

- Strong fundamentals in Computer Science – particularly OOP, algorithms, and data structures.

- Expertise on Postgres and SQLAlchemy.

- Expertise on a Python web framework (`fastapi` or `flask` preferred).

- Experience in object-relational mapping (ORM).

- Experience with a testing framework like `unittest` or `pytest`.

- Good grasp of JWT authorization and HTTPS protocol.

- Good linux fundamentals.

- Good grasp of concepts like virtualenv and docker.

- Eagerness to discover and evolve in the Animation industry.

- Positive attitude, enthusiasm and adaptability.

- Willing to work in a team and share ideas and experiences.

- Ability to self manage assigned tasks.

- Clear communication to coordinators and team members.

- Ability to work in English (reading and writing).

- Open to learning new tools and techniques.

- Experience using the Python APIs of common DCC applications is a plus (like Maya, Nuke, Houdini, etc).

- Experience using NoSQL databases is a plus (e.g. Mongo DB, dgraph, etc).

- Familiarity with front end technologies is a plus (like JavaScript, HTML5, Vue, React).

- Experience using Qt is a plus.

- Good spoken English is a plus.
